Pneuma by Apostolis Itskoudis

From the 8th until the 31st of March, ArtZone 42 Gallery proudly hosts the individual exhibition of the acclaimed artist Apostolis Itskoudis, entitled “Pneuma” and curated by Art Theorist Domna Chanoumidou. The exhibition opening will take place on Thursday 8th of March at 20.00.

In regard to the artwork of Apostolis Itskoudis the exhibition curator emphasises on the following:

“Encompassing gracefulness so obvious in gesture and so striking in colour, this gossamer artwork, veils artistically sewn together submerged in the canvas spurting scattered intense colour stains, the portraits by Apostolos Itskoudis, emerge nostalgically through the glimmer of the past like the remnants of another life, posing as memories of a world that once existed and as lost images of another era. These are familiar yet unknown faces, resembling those of relatives and friends framed in old black and white or faded photographs being stored away in the drawers of the collective subconsciousness of a generation characterised by skilfulness and maximised familiarity in manipulating the - ephemeral and artificial in its core- contemporary digital image. The artistic process explicitly centre stages the faces depicted in the work of Apostolis Itskoudis as returning to discover their place in the modern world, expressed as his own redefined first-hand narrative,

as a dialogue and an encounter”.

About the Artist

Apostolis Itskoudis was born in Alexandroupolis in 1985. He studied drawing and painting at the workshop of N. Christoforakis and L. Marzoukou (2003-2005) and he is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts (Florence). Currently counting 4 solo shows and several participations in group exhibitions both in Greece and Italy, his 5th solo exhibition is hosted in Art Zone 42 Gallery.
